ORC & SailrScience
Independent analytics built on ORC's open data framework.
SailrScience is an independent analytics company. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or certified by ORC. FleetEdge is built on publicly available ORC data — certificates, scoring rules, and race results — combined with SailrScience's proprietary physics model and multi-dimensional analysis framework.
The relationship between ORC and SailrScience is one of data consumer and data framework. ORC defines the rules of measurement — the certificate system, the VPP predictions, the scoring allowances that govern handicap racing worldwide.
SailrScience consumes that framework as one of three data authorities and builds an independent analytical layer on top of it.
This independence is by design. FleetEdge's value comes from combining multiple perspectives on the same boat — and that combination requires that each perspective stands on its own authority.
The ORC certificate says what the boat is. SailEdge physics reveals how Delft Series force-balance analysis interprets the hull form. Race results say what the boat did. The triangulation of all three is what makes dimensional analysis possible.
Three authorities. One analysis.
ORC Certificate: What the Boat Is
Every ORC-rated boat carries a certificate that describes its measurable characteristics — hull geometry, rig dimensions, stability curves, appendage configuration, and the VPP-derived performance predictions that determine its handicap. These certificates are public data, issued by national rating authorities under ORC's international framework.
FleetEdge reads 31 dimensional features from each certificate. It does not write to the certificate, modify the rating, or influence the handicap calculation in any way. The certificate is an input to FleetEdge's analysis, not an output of it.
SailEdge Physics: ORC-Anchored Analysis
SailEdge is SailrScience's proprietary force-balance computation, built on the Delft Systematic Yacht Hull Series. It provides an ORC-anchored analysis that computes speed deltas against the certificate baseline using Delft Series physics at every wind angle and velocity.
The delta between the ORC baseline and SailEdge's force-balance analysis is itself a dimensional feature. This delta captures how the Delft Series force-balance analysis interprets the hull form relative to the certificate — and those patterns often correlate with the characteristics that define a boat's archetype.
What FleetEdge does not do.
Clarity about boundaries matters. FleetEdge is a downstream analytics tool — it consumes ORC data, it does not produce it. The following boundaries are by design and will not change.
FleetEdge does not modify ORC ratings. It does not influence handicap calculations. It does not replace, supplement, or compete with the ORC VPP. It does not issue certificates or contribute data to the certification process. It does not communicate with ORC's rating systems.
FleetEdge is an analytical layer that reads the public outputs of ORC's framework and combines them with independent data sources to produce dimensional analysis. The ORC certificate is an input. The race result is an input. FleetEdge's analysis is the output.
Built on the ORC foundation.
