The Rolex Fastnet Race is the 600-nautical-mile Cowes-to-Cherbourg classic that founded offshore racing in 1925 and just staged its 100th edition in July 2025 — the first century of a race that created the RORC, invented the Admiral's Cup, and remains the single long-distance test where hull efficiency, crew execution, and tactical intelligence all have to hold together across every mile. The 2025 centenary drew over 450 entries, the largest fleet in the race's history, and brought the Admiral's Cup back for the first time since 2003.

Tidal gates at Portland Bill, the Needles, and the approaches to the Fastnet Rock are race-defining. Arriving at Portland on the wrong phase of the ebb can cost a boat two hours in six miles, and the fleet routinely splits on which gate to prioritise. The Celtic Sea's Atlantic exposure makes every Fastnet a weather story first and a boat story second — and the 100th edition was no exception, with a trim-disciplined top three of AEROMAX, KEELFLEX, and BALANCECORE carrying the day on a course that rewarded fine execution over brute force.

AEROMAX leads at 21.6% (37 boats) — the power-efficiency hybrid with strong upwind drive and moderate displacement, the single largest archetype. KEELFLEX follows at 18.7% (32 boats) and BALANCECORE at 18.1% (31 boats), completing a top-three that accounts for 58% of the classified fleet. ITA-15192 FREYA (Sciarrelli Schooner, BALANCECORE) posted a Comparative Time residual of −99.54 sec/nm vs ORC across the 83-boat ranked field — a 21.7 sec/nm margin over LEON in second and a 55.3 sec/nm margin over WHIMJY 99 in third. The same boat topped Crew Effectiveness at −100.93 sec/nm on the 82-boat Crew cohort and held the Heel Angle board at 4.8 degrees in 12-knot upwind conditions. Three dimensional boards, three first-place finishes, one Schooner-class BALANCECORE hull — the Fastnet solved quietly, without the rail in the water. BALANCECORE is the heel-sensitive hull with a wider, more forgiving performance envelope, and the 100th edition's conditions gave it exactly the window it needs.

LEON (FRA-53524, JPK 1050), WHIMJY 99 (FRA-53331, J 99), and Tenet (JPK 10.30) — three French shorthanded-pedigree hulls cluster inside the Comparative Time top-6 and the Sail Drive top-3 of the 100th-edition Fastnet. LEON posted a Comp Time residual of −77.85 sec/nm vs ORC, WHIMJY 99 at −44.28, and Tenet's Sail Drive Efficiency of 3.037 put it 0.08 behind BEAU IDEAL at the top of that family. Three boats, three dimensions, seven podium slots: GLIDEFORM is the low-drag hull with strong downwind bias through efficient waterline-to-beam ratios, and the French shorthanded lineage converted that envelope into tight, crew-driven execution over 600 nautical miles.
