The ORC system produces extraordinary technical data about every rated boat — hull geometry, rig dimensions, stability curves, velocity predictions — but the tools to interpret that data at fleet scale did not exist.
FleetEdge reads the ORC certificate as a design fingerprint, triangulates it with independent physics evaluations and empirical race outcomes, and reveals the fleet’s measured structure — including the eight performance archetypes that emerge from the data itself.
Working with Farr Design on the development of SailEdge, it became clear that a Fleet Performance Workbench was needed alongside the per-boat physics — the same hull and sail-plan signal that powered one digital twin could be reasoned about at fleet scale once the cohort context was in place. FleetEdge was developed by applying the same data science and performance analytics from decades of industry experience, following data-science and data-visualization best practices end to end.
SailrScience is based in Annapolis, Maryland — “America’s Sailing Capital.” The company builds FleetEdge and its sibling platform SailEdge, which models hull and sail-plan physics from first principles.

Kevin Farley, Principal of the FleetEdge program.
He brings decades of commercial software design and data analytics to solving customer experience challenges. He holds a degree in mathematics and spent a decade in the network-management laboratories of one of the largest U.S. telecommunications carriers, where his work with datasets spanning billions of call records led to a granted U.S. patent in network management. That was data science at carrier scale. Global consulting followed, including a tenure as Global Head of Marketing Analytics at Capgemini Insights & Data. SailrScience brings the same analytical rigor to offshore racing. Understanding the structure of competitive fleets — and engaging with the naval architects, racing teams, and ORC officials who shape them — was just such an opportunity. He lives aboard in Annapolis and builds SailrScience from the same sailing community he serves.
