Condition & Tactical
The race's weather, read against the boat — what the conditions asked, and how the design answered.
Condition & Tactical (registry short label: Conditions) is the FleetEdge dimension family derived from the atmospheric data layer. For every race record carrying ERA5 coverage it reads the wind the race was sailed in, how much of the race the weather record covers, the share of a result the conditions account for, and how well the design type suited what it met. Every reading needs a weather-joined race observation — these are race-dependent dimensions, and they are where Weather Intelligence becomes analytics.
What Condition & Tactical measures.
Two readings describe the race, two describe the weather record's depth, and two describe the boat against the conditions. The Condition Residual is the family's spine: the part of a result the measured conditions account for, in seconds per nautical mile.

Reading the polarity. The two wind readings say what the race was like, not how the boat did — they carry no better direction. Weather Coverage and Weather Observations read higher is better: more of the race seen, more points behind the reading. The Condition Residual is seconds per nautical mile, lower is better. Archetype Condition Fit ranks higher is better. The labels and units are the App's own, the same family you see on the Fleet View ribbon and in the Boat View.
Derived from the weather layer.
Condition & Tactical is derived, not sourced. Its input is the Weather Intelligence layer — ECMWF ERA5 reanalysis sampled at each race's leg centroids and venue bounding boxes, timed to the running's actual window. The layer says what the race met; this family says what that meant for the boat. The Ocean Intelligence layer is a second data layer, read beside this one on the five tidal flagships — it feeds no reading in this family.
The same two layers feed the App's Archetypes vs. Conditions view, where each archetype's race PPI sits beside the ERA5 and HYCOM columns of the race that produced it — the base data and the derived reading on one screen.
What a condition reading can and cannot say. ERA5 enrichment says what conditions a race was sailed in, so design evidence can be read in context. It cannot attribute any single result to weather alone, and an archetype-condition reading is an association at its stated scope — never a verdict on a boat or a crew.
FleetEdge alters no rating and no score — ORC remains the rating and scoring authority.
